Hi, Is it possible to use names instead of numbers on the IP KEM attached to a I2004 on a bcm200 v4.0. I cant find any information in any of the documentation. I know you can through telephone options on the handset but thats only on the cs1000.

Any help would be great.

You can label either number or name,if you name the phone with a name in set programing when you do a feature * 2 (internal autodial) to program the KEM you still need to enter the extention number but when you press the button it has the name.

You need to name the extensions that are going to be getting buttons. When you do Feature *2 and the extension the name will appear as "Ad [Name]"

What doesn't kill you only makes you stronger.

Many thanks for the info but what about the external auto dial numbers that are programmed on the KEM how do you get names on them instead of showing just the numbers.

The same as the names go into line programing and depending what kind of a line it is name the lines with a name instead of a number.

you cannot put a name on an external autodial only the number. what cook1082 is talking about are line names in your system...

I cant believe there is not a way to put a name to external auto dial buttons!! So whats the point of having a KEM with loads of buttons on and having all mobile numbers on that KEM. Then say a temp come in to use the phone they will have no idea what numbers are for who?

Anyone have a solution to this apart from getting a new phone system that is not a bcm?

Sorry for the rant but this is just mad.

Use a 7316e with a KIM. This isn't a CS1k with almost every option under the sun....

I'm not being indignet but did you read the above. It states in programing name the set or line then lable the phone with that name or number but to program the KEM that is feature *2 or *1 you need to insert the extention number or phone number.

OK if you need names then why not create a system speed dial list and use the name to pop up? Put a list on each desk and a speed dial button.

What doesn't kill you only makes you stronger.

cook1082 i think you have the wrong end of the stick! I know how to get extension numbers to show as names on the KEM but not the external dial numbers so: feature * 1, put in number 0207***8735. Now i need that to display on the KEM next to the key the name, eg Cleaning comp.

I now know you cant do this with the BCM even though its a very basic feature.

Many thanks to all who posted.

CTCINY, yeah i had already tried to fob my customer off with that work around but thats not good eoungh.

I see , well the only way is like Cyber states-Speed dial. Or can't be done. The number for external autodial is the number being dialed.Sorry Dude.
