Hello.

This is my first post and from what I see, I'm confident someone can help me out. I'm not very technical when it comes to phone systems, so bear with me.

Here's the situation:

We have approx. 40 phones in our office. We have the automated attendant set up. When the secretary leaves at 5, the automated attendant is turned on and the secretary's phone is forwarded to another phone which acts as the operator. There is someone here 24 hours.

When you call from outside, and get someone's voice mail, the * feature doesn't bounce you back to the automated attandant. Instead, it exits the system and you have to call back if you want a different mailbox. This was working at one point, but I believe we upgraded to the meridian software and it hasn't worked since then.

Is it the meridian software, or am I missing some setting at the secretary's phone?

If you have more questions, I will try my best to answer them. Thanks.

No its just a programming issue inside the VM.IF you can log in to the VM as an adminstrator you can fix your problem. Here what you can do dial Feat 983 enter the admin mailbox and the password (the default depend on the extension no of digits in the system)1020000 if you have 3 digits extensions or 120000 if you have 2 digits extensions. After that you will see three options ,choose AA,then choose GRTG,then choose AA,you will see Return to AA,change it to Y(yes),then press Rlease, and try it .It should work.IF not post again. Good Luck!

Thanks sam, but I've checked this out already. It is set to Y(yes). You would think that this would work. Very frustrating. It's probably something simple. Then again, maybe not.

Thanks

That's the only thing that I can think of that can cause that problem. Try to go back to the same option and change it to No then change it back to Yes.Then reboot the VM,maybe that will help.
By the way what is the software revision on the system and voicemail? Good Luck!

I changed it to No and back to Yes, unsuccessful. Is re-booting the VM dangerous? The software version is 2.0.10 and I'm not sure about voicemail.

Thanks

Rebooting the VM its not dangerous. You can reboot the system and the VM together. Its ok to do so.Sometimes rebooting clears alot of issues.Because nothing in the programming as I mentioned before affect this problem other than this field that you changed ,so it should work.Unless if you have something flaky with your VM software. Good Luck!

Ok sam, I'm willing to try this. Could you give me a step-by-step to make sure nothing goes wrong. Much appreciated.

Thanks.

If you have a flash VM ,then the only thing you can do is unplug the power for one minuet and power back up.If you have the NAM VM,then you have to log in under F915 and enter password access2 and you will see access server ,press next 2 times, and you will see system reboot, press show and follow the prompt,or if you don't want to go through all that you can just unplug the power for one minuet and power back up.The only thing you should worry about is the battery inside your system if its weak or bad so it will not hold the programming.Just to be in the safe side because I don't know how old is your switch just power down the VM only not the system. Good Luck!

Thanks Sam,

I'll probably try this, but I'm going to wait till the boss gets back from out of town and see what he thinks. He knows the system more than I do.

Let me step back for a moment. This feature seems to work at a certain extent if I actually leave a message on an extension. For example: I call our number and get the automated attendant. I punch in my extension and leave a message ##. Then by hitting the * key, I can punch in another mailbox. It doesn't actually ring, but lets me leave a message.

What I'm wondering is, when you connect to someone's voice mailbox is it possible to get back to the menu without exiting the system.? It's a problem with customers who are looking to talk to someone and get voicemail and then want to kick out and talk to someone else without hanging up and dialing again. Is there any way around this.

Note: the automated attendant, or receptionists phone is forwarded to another phone at night.

Any input appreciated. Thanks in advance

If I understand you correctely. From the AA if you dial any ext or if you reached any ext ,you can dial * and it should route back to the main menu, and if you dial * and the ext no. it should go to that ext.,thats usually the way it works. But again I'm not sure what the rev. of your VM ,I know all the new flash or NAM ,they act like this.I don't recall the old VM if they work the same or not.I hope that help. Good Luck!

Yeah, what happens is when you dial an extension through the AA, if you hit *, you get exiting the system. But, if you leave a message on that extension, then you can switch to another extension with the * key. The ideal situation would be that if you dial an extension and there is no answer, instead of having to leave a message, you could hit * and go back to the AA to try a different extension to see if that person is there. This is not working.

How do I check the version of my VM?

You can dial Feat 983,then the admin mailbox and the password ,when you see mailbox ,AA,others, dial 9 ,It should display the s/w level of your VM.I hope that helps. Good Luck!

Norstar Flash 2.0.10

I know this used to work, but I believe they upgraded to the Merdian software and it hasn't worked since then. Maybe this option is no longer available.

In that version it should work .From the AA if you dial any ext and you can press * and it will bounce back to the AA greeting or if you press *and the ext. number it should go to that extension.Just again make sure like I mentioned earlier that you have RETURN TO AA is set to YES.I hope that helps. Good Luck!

Yeah, the return to AA is set to yes. Could it be because that phone is forwarded to another at night? Maybe it's time to reset the VM. Don't really want to do that, but it seems like the only other option. Thanks

Rebooted the system and the VM. Still nothing.
