Microsoft Article Q291798 states that a problem with Termsrv.exe can be fixed by replacing the Kernel32.dll from SP6 with a newer version dated 27/11/2000, can anyone tell me where or how to get this replacement file....????
Ok, seems to be connected with the Termsrv.exe process, our busiest servers (80-100 users) are causing a bit of concern at the moment, we recently added Notes 5 and our users are reporting that the servers are running much slower (although this could be user perception..??!!!). Looking at Performance Monitor the memory useage (including Virtual) is still only around 50% utilised, RAM is 2Gb, processor utilisation varies between 20-100%, Quad Pentiums, but does fluctuate quickly. Watching the process/CPU utilisation shows that Termsrv.exe does "hog" the CPU considerably and seems to verify what the Microsoft article states..... any other suggestions re. tuning apps on TS/Metaframe would be gratefully recieved, there doesn't appear to be much info on this area....????? Thanks.
Managed to contact Microsoft and "someone" will be in touch within 2 days!!!! Anyone got any ideas on why this patch isn't freely available...???? Its even worse watching your servers when you know the performance could be much better once you get hold of ONE file....!!!!!
I'd *guess* that it's not freely available because not enough people have asked Microsoft for it. How many is not enough is anyone's guess - but at least they do provide these patches on request.
Behind the scenes, I'd again *guess* that, since this file is central to the O/S, M$ want to make pretty damn sure it doesn't break anything in their own product before they release it in SP7.
SP7 will obviously contain a plethora of other bugfixes - none of which can impact the system as a whole or M$'s hotline will get pretty jammed. Even M$ get nervous when the whole of the S&P500 (all users of Terminal services!) start throttling them. That would be combined with the fact that Microsoft have an awful lot of face to try and save...;-)
There's a good "Best Practices" document on Citrix's site that contains some good tuning tips (a few submitted by yours truly ), and
Eventually got the updated Kernel from Microsoft and have been running it successfully on a "test server" for several days......going to try it "live" later today...!!!!
Anyway,if anyone is experiencing the same problem and wants a copy of this file then let me know.........
I would love to get the patch. I am having a problem when logging into Citrix from home. When logging into Citrix I receive the message "wfica32 has caused an invalid page fault in module kernel32.dll at 0167:BFF714AC. Do you think that patch will correct this problem?
Hey Highland, if you are willing to give the patch i would be interested. Right now I don't have any problems but I always like to keep known good patches just in case, cause if you experienced it then it's possible I will too.
