I have suse linux 9.1 personal server running. I look under usr/src and there is NO linux folder. I need to install the kernel source code, i tried to use yast and still can't do it. Can anyone point me in the right direction. Thanks

You can always go to and download and install a newer kernel by hand..

Catapultam habeo. Nisi pecuniam omnem mihi dabis, ad caput tuum saxum immane mittam.

THAT'S FUNNY, I WENT TO THE SUSE WEBSITE AND FOUND IT IN UNDER 30 SECONDS.

It's on your install CD, too. Open Yast and search for 'kernel-source'.

that's funny lawnboy because i went to yast control center search typed kernel-source and found nothing. what am i doing wrong????

When you open yast, one of the options is Change Installation Source. Make sure this hasn't been pointed at some local directory. The search function operates on the source selected.

I've got 9.0, not 9.1; but the website says all 9x versions are in the same place. The full package name is kernel-source.$ARCH.rpm. I'm getting this info from

Aha! I think I see your problem. When you first open Yast, there is a serch button displayed. This is the wrong search (I'm not sure what you would use that one for).

Once Yast is open, click Install or Remove Software. Then set the package group to 'search', enter 'kernel-source', and search from there.

OK -
I went to Yast under Package group and saw the Kernel Menu, i went to it and it had the Kernel-smp checked off. SO doesn't that mean it is installed??? THanks guys for your help

No, kernel-smp is the SMP kernel, not the source. Look for kernel-src or kernel-source or possibly kernel-someversioninfo.src.rpm

Sorry, I'm not a SUSE user, so I don't know exactly what they call their kernel source package.
