I have installed redhat 8.0 with no kernel sources, i know how to download new kernel and compile it, i know also that after compiling new kernel there is a .config file where i can find all the param of the compiled kernel.

My question is : with a new redhat installed can i know what kernel parametres are enabled (modules or within the kernel)? because there is no source and no .config

Or this is impossible?
thanks.

I'm assuming stock 8.0 has a kernel version 2.4.18-14. Look for the file:
/boot/config-2.4.18-14

I'm looking at the contents of that RPM via a search at (GREAT resource for RPM-based users). Anyway, that's the config file for that kernel. You can 'less' through it to see the options used to compile that kernel.

To see your currently loaded modules, 'lsmod' is good. Also, dig around in /proc and 'cat' everything reasonable (except maybe kmem and rand). --
