Does anyone know that message:

VFS:unable to mount root fs

When my new kernel boots

thanks

Sounds like there's a problem with the way the kernel has been built - did you notice any errors when you were doing so? Are you able to back out to an earlier Linux/Unix version and try again? Sorry this isn't much help, but post back with any errors etc and someone will probably be able to help you. One final thought - can you boot from CD and try to mount the root fs from there? Cheers.

I can boot with my old kernel I have the 2.4.8 and I'm trying to set up 2.4.17

ds: no unix socket drivers loaded =========>I don't know what's that!!!!!! what sockets

vfs: unable to mount root fs=====> I have included reiserfs support I 'm using reiserfs file system ,but nothing!!!

means anything to you?

I can't think of something I haven't put in the kernel configuration
