Hello,
I have seen this before but never asked for help on it. I have a laptop with XP Pro on it. I haven't done anything to it lately (installed software etc). Now, when I turn it on it just keeps rebooting. I tried "safe mode", I also tried select "last known good config". No luck! Any ideas what I can do?

Thanks,
Tony

Press F8 when the computer is booting up to get to the Advanced Options Menu where you were able to select 'Safe Mode' from. When you get to this menu, select the 'Disable automatic restart on system failure' option. You should now be able to see the blue screen and get some kind of error message that will help with troubleshooting the issue. Post the error message you get on here for further assistance. If you haven't done anything such as software installs recently, you are probably experiencing a hardware failure.

Hi Joey,
Here is what I get on the blue screen "UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME". Not sure if you needed all the other info.

Thanks,
Tony

Sounds like you have some file system errors on your hard drive, or your drive could be on its way out the door. Try booting into the Recovery Console and run chkdsk /r to try and repair file system errors. The KB article below also describes using the fixboot command if chkdsk does not work. If you are not familiar with using the Recovery Console there is a link below that can help you out. If these do not work, you may also try running a hard drive diagnostic utility test to see if the drive itself is dying.

- Error Message when you restart your computer or upgrade to Windows XP: "STOP 0x000000ED UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME"

- Description of the Windows XP Recovery Console

Thanks! I ran the chkdsk /r and that fixed it. Thanks again!
