Hi all
I am having a workgroup of computers. No Domain. I have one Server running W2K Adv Srvr where i mapped one folder. I have a W2K Pro running SP3. The shared folder on the Srvr is mapped as E drive on W2K pro. This w2k pro runs a particular customized software which needs this mapped drive to be persistent all the time. On every sat morning this w2k pro machine reboots and for some reasons instead of reconnecting to the mapped drive it is waiting for someone to enter the network password. This is causing lot of problems including production delays. I cant install anyh patches or sp4 to the w2k pro machine. I dont know what my previous admin did to it so that it retains the mapped drive after reboot.

I need to fix this problem with in next 2/3 days. I cant reboot the w2k pro during day time. i can disconnect the mapped drive and reconnect. i tried using

net use e: \\server_name\share_name /persistent:yes. it maps but dont know if it will be persistent or not. Also how do I give the username and password while trying to use the "net use" command?? I tried the w2k options but feel that somewhere i am missing something.

Any help onto this is greatly appreciated. Thx in advance.

You might want to try using tweakui to set an autologon. Then for security set the screen saver to kick in within a minute or two.

thx for the tip. actually the w2k pro machine logson automatically. it came from the software vendor. all i have to do is to have this mapped drive on forever even if the machine reboots.

what is this tweakui and how do i configure it? btw the machine goes into screen saver mode automatically with in a min or two.

thx for your reply

Tweakui is a power toy from Microsoft that allows you to set up a bunch of registry changes via the UI. One of which is the autologon feature.

So is your connection showing with a red x or is it just not remapping?

I found the following useful. I put this line in a .bat file, then put a shortcut to the .bat file in my startup folder. The switch /autodisconnect:-1 tells Windows to never break the connection. Also, when you first mapped the drive, I'm sure you told it to "reconnect at logon", so it should continue with the original username and password.

Here's the .bat file line:
net config server /autodisconnect:-1

That was why I was asking about the red X. You actually want to run that command at both the server and workstation. It is not necessary to run it at each logon, it changes the registry.
