Anyone know of a way to close Outlook, but keep it running in the background so users are still notified of their email?

We used to use 'Outlock' but it does not do well with add-ins like anti-spam programs, PocketMirror or PlanPlus. We've also tried the "MinToTray" reg hack and 'HideOutlook'. But those only work with minizing - not closing. 'Glance' was close, but has since disappeared.

Thanks for any ideas!

Pkirill,

There is a slick little (free) program called X-Setup that allows you to "close" Outlook. When you minimize Outlook, it places an Outlook icon in your system tray and disappears from your taskbar. If a new message comes in, you can either click on the new mail icon or the outlook icon in the system tray and it will re-appear on your desktop.

It also allows you to customize your desktop and settings for a variety of different applications and uses. You can find it at
Read the help file included with the program as it can help you with a lot of the features. Some changes will be made immediately, whilesome modifications, require a reboot.

Hope this helps.

Peter
