Got a form with a single column grid. Placed the file in the data environment which contains the index as well. To add a record to the file, I scroll to the bottom of the grid and type the data into a blank record. Upon completion the record does not move to the appropriate location, alphabetically. I exit and get back in only to find the record still at the bottom of the file.

Thank you kindly,

It shouldn't matter, but don't put the index file in the Data Environment.

What happens if you open the table from the command window and set order to this tag?

Tamar

Since I have an option to build indices for all tables, I suppose when the file was placed in data environment, the index went with it (nothing else on my part).

When the table is opened in the command window and set order to the tag, it moves the record to the appropriate location.

Thanks again

From the test in the Command Window, you know that problem isn't the index, so it must be something going on in your form. My bet is that something is SETting ORDER TO <nothing>.

Thanks a million, Tamar.
With that said, I did the following to LOAD EVENT
SET ORDER TO NAMEINDX

That did the trick.

Got a question:
I know how to get a grand total on a field for a report. But what I trying to do is get a subtotal based on the account number (which might appear multiple times in a table). I was told to Index by Account number (no problem) and create a group within the report (?) and subtotal by the group.

alexfher,

When in Report designer, go to menu Report -> Data Grouping, and also check out Report -> Variables.

(In general, start a new thread for a new question.)

alexfher,

Thanks for the star, but are you sure you meant me and not Tamar?
