also... if you start a task in the foreground and want to set it running in the background you can usually hit control-z to stop the application then enter 'bg' and that would be equivalent to starting a task with the ampersand character, e.g. 'netscape &'.
Hey you can put an "&" but that only means the programm will run in the background.Once you logout the programm will terminate.
