Keeping a process running after logout

i would like to start a script
"runallnite.sh"

what i have to do now is set up a cron job to make it start.

Is there anyway i can dial up, start it,
disconnect, and keep it running?
(without the cron job)

You could also use nohup <command>

This should give you a session immune to hangups. HTH.

Hi,

also... if you start a task in the foreground and want to set it running in the background you can usually hit control-z to stop the application then enter 'bg' and that would be equivalent to starting a task with the ampersand character, e.g. 'netscape &'.

Rgds

Ahhhh,, so i all i have to do is either background it or start it with <command &>.

i knew how to do this, but i wasnt sure if it would keep running after logout..

Thanx everyone!

Hey you can put an "&" but that only means the programm will run in the background.Once you logout the programm will terminate.
do
nohup <PROGNAME> &
