Hey everyone!

First off, I'm in the US (Durham, NC area). We have home wireless network, (3 laptops on wireless and one desktop). We have Time Warner Road Runner using their Motorolla Surfboard modem. That is plugged into the uplink of our linksys wireless router.

What happens is that intermittently, we just completely loose our internet connections, even on the desktop that is hardwired into the router. I tried calling the cable co. and of course, the minute they hear I'm using "my own" router, they tell me it's the router.

I've tried two different Linksys routers and this STILL happens. What are the chances that it's the router? A friend told me that the cable company could be scanning for non-TW routers and "flashing" their connections to make them buy TW routers.

Anyways, ANY info is greatly appreciated!

My personal experience with Verizon reliability has been very different than is promoted. For example, it says on the broadbandinfor site that Verizon "DSL also offers an “always on” connection, so there is no need to wait for the connection to be established every time you want to use the Internet. " while Comcast "you never tie up a line, get disconnected, or have to wait to get connected using Comcast high speed Internet". And the error "Cannot get an IP Address from the PPPoE Server", and the Ready Light are a constant reminder that I have no reliable internet service. Calling customer support is equally as frustrating because while waiting in the phone queue for what seems like forever, the poor router can finally make a connection and synch up. So, by the time the support people "test the line" the connection is good. Verizon is a nightmare. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Older Linksys routers are famous for problems. Before you invest a lot of time in to other solutions, go to Linksys, get the latest firmware and update the router. This fixes more Linksys problems than anything.
