We have a special production user set up for File Share delivery subscriptions. Some - but not all - of these subscriptions fail with a login error. I have had to ask the keeper of the production passwords to re-enter this one several times.

If someone were to browse such a subscription's properties and exit by hitting OK instead of Cancel, would this cause the loss of the password?

If not, does anyone have any idea what might be happening?

yup - if you go into the subscription properties, the password is stripped out. If you then hit enter, the blank password is kept. If you hit cancel, it goes back to how it was..

We could learn a lot from crayons. Some are sharp, some are pretty and some are dull. Some have weird names and all are different colours but they all live in the same box.

Thanks, Geoff. That's what I was afraid of. I think I'm finally beginning to understand this system. Now, there's a scary thought... :)

If you have random users doing this, simply set their security settings so they are a reader rather than an admin.

If it is an admin doing it, simply beat them about the face with a wet fish until they promise to behave!

It's one willing but sorely overworked DBA. I'll try to use this SSRS "feature" as an argument to give the content managers access to this one production password. They're the ones that set up production subscriptions anyway. That would certainly take the heat off the DBA.

yeh - that way they're responsible for their own data - less likely to muck anything up....good luck!
