Help! I have AdAwareSE installed on my computer and run it faithfully but I still keep getting spyware. Does anyone have any suggestions.

Ad-Aware removes spyware after the fact. It does not block it. You keep getting spyware because you keep visiting sites that plant it.

Change your surfing habits. Also, avoid most search bars, all "Internet acellerators", coupon networks, KaZaA and other P2P networks and be very careful what other free software you install.

What browser are you using? By knowing this, someone can help point you at some best practices tips on how to secure your browser.

Also, if you are not currently using a firewall, you may want to check on Sygate or Zone Alarm's free firewall software.

A firewall will do almost nothing for spyware however the browser is a good point. Firefox, Mozilla, Opera, etc. are much less prone to spyware than IE.

Well, the Sygate firewall has helped me quite a bit. It notifies me when a program is wanting to change a file on my computer. If it didn't have this option, my husband would have opened our computer up to all sorts of spyware!

Turning off scripting, changing browsers, using the Spybot S&D teatimer, etc. will definitely help keep spyware off your machine.

I've been able to keep my personal and work computers completely free and clear of spyware while others around me are continually having problems.

I stand corrected. I was thinking of hardware firewalls, but you're right, software firewalls can catch a lot of stuff.

From what I saw earlier this year though, (supporting home users) the number one cause was the sites they were visiting.
