Keep Extended desktop coordinates

Here is my problem. I have a secondary monitor setup as an extended desktop running off of the back of my laptop. The monitor is located on the left side of my laptop. Everytime I activate the secondary video port using the <fn> + F8 keystroke, it defaults to the right side. I go to the properties of my video settings, drag the number "2" monitor back to the left and apply it and hit OK. If I toggle the <FN> + F8 keystroke again, it goes back to the right side.

Is there any way to make the left side the default? I can't find these settings.

There should be check boxes in the properties on the monitors
There will be 2:
This is my main monitor
Extend desktop to this monitor

make sure they are checked appropriately
