After setting up NIS on my machine I now see two icons on the KDM logion screen for each user.
I guess this is something to do with a clash between the nis DB and /etc/passwd but I'm unsure how to resolve it safely.
I got the KDM showing only one icon for each user by changing nsswitch.conf from
passwd : compat
to
passwd : file [!UNAVAIL=return] nis
What should the correct setting be for a stand alone machine running NIS.
My passwd file still contains .....
+:::::
Why am I running NIS on this machine ? I have to do some work with some NIS client software (JNDI stuff).
Any help appreciated.
