I installed Redhat 8.0 then installed winamp. Where did win amp go? Sounds dumb but I cant seem to fimd it.

Ok I found it in usr/local/winamp.exe but it doesnt open. I'll keep trying stuff.

I don't see a version of winamp for linux listed on the website.

Chances are, if it has a .exe extension, it's not a Linux executable. You've probably installed the Win32 program. In any regard, as smah has said, Winamp isn't available for Linux.

Try XMMS:
Also, many mp3 players for Linux are based on mpg123. The mpg123 site has many links to other programs. Go to and take a look at the "Links to related information" section. ______________________________________________________________________

When I download from that site, I get an RPM, not an .exe
Are sure you've got the right file? As sleipnir214 said, exe's are pretty much windows only.

Well It did first come as an RMP but after I clicked it it put a winamp.exe in /usr/local

Redbird400,

I would be very cautious about that software. The last time I checked, WinAmp was not open-source -- which makes me very curious about the code from which this app comes.

Also, why isn't the software's being distributed from the WinAmp site?

Third, even if I could resolve the first two issues, this software is alpha 1 release. This is very experimental code.

I strongly recommend that you find a more mature product -- I have had good success with XMMS. ______________________________________________________________________

Yeah Think I gave up on the winamp Idea. I'll try that XMMS.

According to Nullsoft, makers of WinAmp, they are currently working on a Linux port for WinAmp3. No timetable given though.
