I've never used jython or python, but it seems that if you have code written in Java and also Python, then Jython is a way of making the two languages talk, like an interface. From a quick look, Python looks a bit like Perl, and is probably easier to develop in than Java - eg its a bit more like a scripting language as it (I think) does not have strongly typed datatypes like Java does.
