my tomcat 3.2.4 jvm.stderr log file gets huge if I don't take care of it every now and then.

is there a parameter I can put in wrapper.properties or somewhere that limits the size of this log file?

Not that I know of, but if you are running linux/unix you may just as well easily set up a cron entry to 'echo "" > log' ...

No it is a Win2K server. The file is locked and I can't rename or delete the log files without first stopping Tomcat. I could possibly do something with a batch file run as a scheduled task.

stop Tomcat
rename/delete log files
restart Tomcat

Yeah, sorry, we've been running tomcat from version 3 to 5, and have never found a way around this ... (not saying there isn't one). Tomcat holds an agressive lock on the stdout/stderr file, and win32 won't touch it unless the process is dead. Oh well !

thanks for the quick response and help sedj!

you confirmed what my googling was leading me to believe. at least I can now jimmy rig something with task scheduler and a batch file with a clear conscience :)
