Hello everyone

I am the Systems Administrator, IT Manager, Burgler Alarm Overseer and Air Conditioning bloke.

We have 31 users including 8 Laptop using, oversea's traveling, demanding sales dudes.

we have two NT servers and two legacy Netware servers
we are soon to introduce a third NT server running Exchange server 5.5

My boggle is that I work only part-time here (great if I could afford to continue doing so) I feel that I am sutiably busy to make me feel that I am never quite able to get on top of things - I would like to work full time, do you think that I have a case to present to my employers - does anyone out there support less than 31 users and work full time?

Your comments would be appreciated,

Graham

With 31 users - boarderline. With 5 servers plus Exchange - definitely!

Your ratio of mobiles to fixed is also likely higher than the average, and if they are "demanding sales dudes" any glitch is a major problem that demands immediate attention.

My company created my position full time at a time when they had 2 Novell severs and 45 workstations. This was 5 years ago and we now have 2 Win2k servers, 1 Novell server plus 1 "retired" Novell server, 85 desktops and 30 notebooks.

I dont think what you are doing should be a part time position. There is just too many potential problems that could arise that may be mission critical. You should present to your employers a list of reasons (if needed make a list of possible problems and scenerios that COULD happen while you are away. Give a time estimate for each and show its more benificial to them to keep you there full time.) why this is a full time position. With 3 NT servers including exchange server, with 30+ users keeping you part time is a mistake. Down time would be too great when you are not around. James Collins
