I am using a networked laptop to connect through to the Crystal Management Console that is installed on a server on the network. As I am accessing it through internet explorer I choose to use Windows NT authentication. Unfortunately on clicking the log on button it thinks about it then just shows me the same page again.

This has occured as I have changed from a desktop to a laptop. The other change is that my personal stuff such as cookies are located on the D drive as opposed to the C drive. The other bit that is staring me in the face is that when I open up the login page in IE6 there is a little eye and a no entry sign to the left of "intranet" in the bottom of the task bar for IE. Oh and its IE 6.0

Thanks.
Mark.

Windows NT authentication is not used just because you are using Internet Explorer, the authentication type is dependant on how it is setup within Crystal Enterprise.

Try setting it to Enterprise Authentication and let us know what happens...

Sorry,
to clarify things I canr logon with either Enterprise or Windows authentication. Before changing my machine I always used Windows authentication.

To confuse matters if I open Launchpad and do CSP query builder, I can type in a query and uses Windows NT authentication.

In brief it dont want to let me or anyone else log on from this machine. Oh and this is also true now on the server which we never realised before!

I am inclined to think that this is cookie related as there is no CE cookie on my machine.

Thanks.

Here's a couple of things to try as it sounds like a browser issue. If IE is trying to use the Internet zone (which it will if it has on or more periods (includeing ip address, not just domain names), it can't use Windows Authentication. If you add the site to the Intranet Zone, you can use windows auth.

1) try adding the site to the intranet zone in in IE. (Tools > Internet Options > Security > Local Intranet > Sites. Add your site. If you have webhost.domainname.com, you can try adding both and Actually, you could add to hopefully avoid the problem with future sites.

Yes, you could play with the security settings, but probably shouldn't.

2) If it's cookies, which I doubt, you could copy them from your old machine.

Thanks.
treid all that allready and no joy. It quite clearly displays that the web page is on the intranet (displayed at the bottom of the IE window) and again still the little no entry sign.
Cheers.

Well, mark the only site that has the "no access" symbol is the restricted sites zone. Can you check to see that you're site is not in this restricted zone, if you haven't already?

Dont know if this helps. But going into IE6 and clicking on tools, internet options, security and then Restricted sites: There are no sites listed as restricted!.

Now I know that the authentication works, I know there is nothing wrong in what I am doing, but something has changed. I still am not having a cookie written to my machine. The only thing I can find as common is both failing machines have a D drive where the cookies are stored, the succesfull machines store cookies on the C drive. Oh and before some suggests the next move of can we swap C and D I think the answer is no absolutely not, the machines are configured and delivered and doing something like that is akin to robbing the crown jewels.

Hope someone can help as I am slowly going mad with this.

And you say it's just your machine (and the browser on the server) that exhibit this behaviour, right?

From any other machine it works correctly?

Thanks very much. I looked at the BO site for IE 6 related problems and never found that article. The problem was disguised a bit as other people were using IE 6.0 and 5.5 and not getting the problem. Yep "_" in the DNS name which caused the problem. Managed a work arounfd and its ok now.
Thanks a lot.
