Okay, so I finally upgraded to CR10. It comes with CE 10 Embedded and CE 10 Professional.
Questions:
1. Can CR 8.5 and 10 co-exits in my development PC?
2. Whats the difference between the CE Embedded and Professional.
3. Can I install the CE10(whatever is the better flavor) in my development PC? I heared this should be installed on a seperate server. If I'll be using, initially, the Repository feature, can I install it on my PC?
I like to leave the 100+ reports running on 8.5. My users are happy with Hammerlaunch as their printing tool. Any update from Hammerlaunch for CR10?

Are there other issues I need to know before I start developing on the ver 10?

Any advice/comment is appreciated...

Yes, you can install it locally, but it's generally used as an enterprise solution, so doing so locally doesn't make sense. Contact Howard Hammerman about updates to his products.

Depending on your needs, I disagree with SV's answer on #3. If you want to use the repository feature for CR10, you need to install Crystal Enterprise. Since you're not publishing your reports through CE, there's no reason to have it running on a separate server. I've had various versions of CE on my development laptops/desktops for a couple of years. I like having a local environment I can control and play with. I could play and modify .csp to my heart's content without affecting the production environment or having to have a separate server.

If you do this, however, I would recommend that you set each of the CE services to start manually, unless you expect to be using them full time. If you're not actively doing Crystal Reports development using the repository or if you're not playing with CE, there's no reason for it to be running and hogging resources on your dev machine.

In order to set the specific services to start manually, go into the CCM (Central Configuration Manager - in the Crystal Enterprise 10 program folder), stop each service, right-click and select properties - set the service to start manually.

Whenever you need to use CE, just open the CCM, highlight all services and click the start button in the toolbar.

Nicely put rhinok, thanks. SV, the link to BO gave me some insight of the CE versions. I think I will install the CE 10 Prof.

I like to install the CE on a server one day but during the learning curve on v10, i might do 'em all on my PC. Convincing the boss for another server might be a tough luck. I'll wait for a good report(s) to show off, then...

What is exaclty is Repository? From what I read, its like a 'location' where you keep global objects you can use at will, i.e. formulas, pics, text values, etc. If I will distribute my reports, do they have to have acces to the 'Repository'? What if its on my PC?
