Hello,

I was recommended to use PHP, but have never used it before. Basically i want to have a user fill in a text box, and have that entry inputed into an html page or .jpg that i can display in an html page. anyone got any suggestions on a starting point, or where a good place to start my PHP experience would be. i know my web host supports php 4.2.2

thanks

Familiarize yourself with the PHP online manual: Most of it will seem like gobbledygook now, but pay attention to the manual's organization. PHP functions are organized into families, so it's good to know what the familiar divisions are.

Under the section "Getting Started" in the online manual, there is a listing for "A simple tutorial", which might be of use to you.

Then, go to PHPBuilder ( and poke around in the code examples and articles.

there are also some really excellent books on the market, I have found PHP and MySQL web development by Welling & Tompson (Thomas? not sure on second name) really good, and teach yourself PHP in 24 hours (sams books) is great too- if you can even borrow them from the liburay and have a read they have alot of really good information that online tutorials don't seem to cover. Sometimes, when my code just won't behave, I take it outside and make it listen to britney spears music, and when it comes back it's really well behaved. I wonder if it's suffering from post tramatic stress syndrome now..
