Im going NUTS here. All I want to do is change some text to my own. It's in this file:
Now, I don't think it's selectable, please tell me if i'm wrong. When I clear the entire thing and type my own text it gets all rectangled edges and ugly. Why is photoshop doing this? How can I prevent this from happening? MS Sans Serif is the type I want. I already tried 'smooth and 'crisp' and so on.

HEEEEELPPPPPP! Thanks for a quick reply.

Is there a reason you haven't just created your own image with the right dimensions? All I see is a PNG with text?

Wow JT that almost looked like you knew what you were doing!

I'm a complete non-photoshopper so... could you tell me the deal with the text getting rectangled edges and all? And if perhaps the text in the file is somehow selectable? Thanks.

Because it is a PNG you can't select the text, it has already been rasterized. The ugly look on the edges of your type is probably because you chose a system font (MS Sans Serif). They do not resize well. Choose a different sans serif font (verdana, arial).

Ultimately there is no reason you can't just start over. Create a new 500x100 photoshop document and do it exactly the way you want.

Hope it helps.

ok that solves my fonttrouble I guess, thx. i started a new image at 100 dpi and Transparent as contents. now when I save it it gives me a grey background (check that link again. what am I doing wrong?

it seems that only at 8 bit using Save for Web the picture appears as transparent. but then it's back to it's ugly shape again as you can see. how can i save it, keeping it beautiful and transparent?

PNGs with transparent backgrounds often turn out grey in Internet Explorer (other modern browsers are ok). There are a few non-standard Microsoft ways of turning transparency back on through the MS version of CSS. I don't know why you have jump through hoops to tell IE, "yes, I made the background transparent because that's what I actually want".

Try this link for an explanation, and possible solution:

The stuff about IE is right on the money. However for the best results save the file as a PNG-24. The 8 bit PNG does not support alpha transparency transparency (which would again give you funny edges) on your type. Ultimately if you are planning to use this on a web page you should use either a gif or a jpg.
