I am trying to see if I can rebuild a BCM 50 for a friend. I believe the hard drive is non functional. Can anyone assist? I do have some spare working hard drives laying around - is it possible to drop one in and get it to load?

You need to put in the same release software as it had before or will not load.

You can search the NT code on the back of the BCM to see what is came as but it wont tell you if it was since upgraded.

It's going to be difficult to find this out now that KRS has gone. As Curly has stated, look on the back of the unit for the initial release and see if this gives you a clue.

I found a spare hard drive that I had laying around that had release 6.0 on it, and that booted in the box.

Obviously, none of the keycodes are active, now that I'm on a new piece of hardware.

I just need to get 6 digital sets and a couple of the analog trunks turned on.

Anyone here good enough with offline activations that can assist? I will email you whatever files you need.

Are you sure that the original hard drive is totally toast or just doesn't boot to completion in the BCM?
I've resurrected quite a few units in similar condition and very few have a hard drive that is absolutely inaccessible. I've even brought back to life drives that have had the partition table blown away.

Just stick the drive in a USB to Sata adapter, plug it in to your computer (linux if possible) and see if you have a bunch of partitions. If you only have windows use a linux image on a virtual machine. Can't remember exactly where but on one of the partitions you should find a license.txt file. That will have all your licensing info for that particular BCM unit which you can upload to the new hard drive install.

Good Luck!

Okay, so I grabbed my Ubuntu laptop and hooked the BCM hard drive to it. I pulled as much data off the 10 different partitions as I could. Where should I be looking for the file I need that contains the license info?

To rebuild a drive is a tough order, not worth the time and effort....throw it out!!
Per my first reply you need to install a replacement hard drive that has the exact same release software as the old hard drive or it will not boot.

You upload the licence file as you normally would through EM.
