Hi - I already have had XP - I just reinstalled it. I have several email addresses (hotmail, yahoo, etc) to use but Outlook express is the default and when I tried to send an email by Outlook express I got this message (below) - does this mean I have to go and reconfigure something in OE or is it not configured automatically? IE works just fine. thanks

do you have a subscription to download hotmail with OE? If so you may need to login to msn and set up the account again. (Can you say cookie)

Hi - Is this something new? I have had Hotmail for several years hooked up to OE. Now that I re-installed OE and XP does that mean I have to get a new Email address from Hotmail? Subscription? what the heck? Hotmail is confusing of course.

Back in February 2005, Hotmail stopped allowing new free accounts from being checked with OE or Outlook. People with free Hotmail accounts before that and that were regularly using OE or Outlook to access them were grandfathered indefinately. However, there was some stipulation about how often the account had to be checked with OE - if it wasn't accessed by OE or Outlook for an extended time (60 days maybe???), that capability would be removed. So if those conditions fit, that could be the reason why. FWIW, Windows Mail (the replacement to OE in Vista) does not all connection to Hotmail even for those of use that are grandfathered. I don't think that it would even if you used the paid Hotmail service.
