I just installed Norton Personal Firewall on a XP workstation and now this machine is unable to see the Novell Tree. Before I installed Norton Personal Firewall I was able to log onto the server. Anyone have any ideas?
Your firewall will be restricting the access to your servers/trees. Is there any particular reason why you need a firewall on your local PC because (and to be honest) in this instance they are more hassle than they are worth.
Your network should be secure so I would advise removing it because configuring it to allow access to your tree/servers is a bit of an ar5e! -----------------------------------------------------

Yes there is a big reason. I'm live on a school campus that uses Novell and they are a few students port scanning me all the time and trying to find back doors into my machine.
I suggest tracing the students who are port-scanning your PC and stopping their actions. There is obviously a security problem at your school if students can get away with doing things like that! -----------------------------------------------------

I already have their IP address. They are trying to find a open port. Department in charge of the network told me the school even runs port scans as well to trace people who are sharing pirated software on the network. They port scanned me 412 times one day. Well they can get away with it are there any tips you can provide for me since the school really does not care?!
