All,

I just installed 8i and am having a couple of problems and hope someone can help.

I can connect directly to the database using Instance Manager, Schema Manager, etc. but when I try and use the Manager Console, I can't get it to work. I installed the Management Server and set up the V2 repository. I've checked the services on NT4 and it shows the Management Server to be running. But no matter what I try, I cannot get access. Says that the Management Server is not set up properly (make sure I have the right server identified is the error).

If I can get this next issue solved, using the Manager Console won't be too big of an issue for right now. What I really need to do is take the structure of this database (tablespace, tables, indexes, etc.) and 'export' the structure so that I can provide a method that another Oracle DBA can then use to recreate the same tables' structure in their database. The "Export" function in the Schema Manager requires that I be connected using the Manager Console (which I can't seem to get to work).

Please forgive the newbieness of these questions. I've had this kinda dumped on me and am plodding through on my own (with a short deadline of course ;->).

thanks in advance for any and all help.

I tell you, this GUI stuff is just a fad!
Go to a DOS prompt and use the EXP utility to do your export. Information on using EXPORT can be found in the Oracle Utility Users' Guide. For what you want to do, there's not too much to learn.

Thanks Carp. I did some digging and found the Export command info. I knew there had to be a command line somehow. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Cheers,
