It has been my experience on the Nortel plastic, that the system ID is in the motherboard of the KSU. That being said, except for a software upgrade or NVRAM replacement, what good is the NRU backup utility.

I back systems up but when we have a KSU go south, and have to replace it, the system ID changes with the new cabinet and your restore utility doesn't work.

Am I doing something wrong, or am I right?

You should be able to upload the programming to the new ksu just don't have it include system id in the upload. it's been a while but I think there is that option.

I am pretty sure you have to be on the same software version or pretty close. I have actually restored Norstars quite a few times with NRU and had no problems, yet.

I even backed up a system from one site and loaded the programming into several others in "cookie cutter" installs. ( ie, the old Eckerd Drug Stores) Just changing some line names was all I had to do.

Ok, then I'm going to have to give this a fresh look, because I haven't had much luck with the restore functions.

System ID does not matter, but Software versions have to be an exact match.

And of course, keycodes will not transfer.
