Just how much Load is ZFD? 3

I've got this problem where all my server hardware budget has been eaten up by one disaster after another, and I'm sitting on this spankin' new copy of ZFD4 but no hardware for it (all dressed up but nowhere to go).

I'm wondering if I can fit it onto an existing NW6.5 server. I could strip that server down to just file and print services for around 100 users and 25 printers (which is the same group I want to service with ZFD). No middle tier.

Hardware is HP2650 dual Xeon 3.2Ghz, 4Gb ram, Perc3 RAID1 at 10K (plenty of disk space), GigE.

Thoughts, suggestions appreciated.

it's almost no strain at all IME.. Imaging (pxe) obviously is going to tax IO a bit, but inventory uses next to nothing. You eat some memory with the various java bits (import/export/zws) but nothing too crazy. I think you should be fine. I don't know if the pkernel/portmapper issue has been resolved or not with zen4 on NW6.5 I had a dedicate a box to it as I use NFAU and it won't run on the same box as PXE.

Not planning on using PXE. If there was something even slightly resembling a standard loadout around here I would, but I'm not willing to try to maintain a set of 70 different images.

I believe there is a patch for the portmapper issue.

One thing cool about ZEN is that some of the features don't really sit on a particular server. They just exist in NDS. So really there is no load. For example, your ZEN apps. It's more of a schema extension than anything else.

The only potential problem I see is that you can get too many Java apps running on your server and the memory used will exceed the memory allocated for the Java environment. If that happens, you just have to change the startup java files to increase the memory allocation.

The only performance hit you will notice is iManager will run slower.
