Just a quick question. What are that advantages/disadvantages between connecting to a site with a Socket or with URL.openStream()?

at first glance, you can read and write to a socket but the openStream method only returns a FileInputStream. obvious disadvantage there.
why don't u use http like the rest of us? its already there and all you need is a servlet engine to make your site very flexible..and tomcat is free
