Okay, here is a fun one for all of you! This is not a problem that has to be fixed (I am unwilling to spend too much time on such a minor annoyance!), but I am curious if anybody else had/has the same issue.

I am running win2k, direct x 7.0 (also does it on my machine with 8.x), IE 5.5 sp2.
ATI rage mobility AGP (I know, I'm sorry too) 8 MB

Everything looks good (this is just a work/utility computer) until I log onto Tek-tips. This is the only place that the video gives problems thus far. I get a sort of artifacting across the blue sides of the page. They tend to get white lines Vertically down them (although that varies a bit).

For example, now I have about 20 of them in the blue between "tek-tips forums partner" and "member feedback" spots. If you hover the mouse over a link that has the white lines over it, the lines go away from that link (also covers threadminder much of the time). Also, scrolling the web site on/off the screen will make them disappear, reappear, or change locations.

Incidentally, it only does this when at 1024 resolution (any color depth). And yes, video acceleration is set to full. If I drop OR INCREASE resolution, issue goes away.

I can change video cards and the issue goes away. I am leaning towards bad card (I have tried updated AND older drivers). just curious! And thanks for the info! ----------------------------------------

Sounds like a bad card to me. Does refresh rate change help it? "A little knowledge is a dangerous thing....." [morning]

Good question...I suppose that that would be the next logical step.
Nope, just tried it. Didn't resolve it!

I just find it wierd that this is the only place I see it!!! ----------------------------------------

easy fix for you, go to ATI's website and download the latest video card driver
that will fix the problem

i had the same thing happened to one of my Server has a Rage chipset video card in it

Really?! I tried an updated drive (couldn't tell you what version, don't remember). I'll do that (last one I admit I got from driverguide....oops). I'll post back. ----------------------------------------

Okay...can't find one on ATI's site...using a generic card w/ mobility chipset. I will try to track manufacturer down tomorrow.

I won't rule out driver! I did, however, download several other drivers (none of which worked). Upon messing with driver, found that Win2k had re-inserted it's own driver...grrrr. I hate that. I tried driver from Manufacturer's CD again...same issue.

Thanks for your input, though...I'll keep on it! ----------------------------------------

let me know what is the exact chipset of ATI, i will send you the link for it
is it a laptop or desktop ?

mudskipper,
I have the same problem in Win98SE running IE 5.5 SP2. I also have Win2K running IE 5.0 SP2 at work that doesn't have this problem.

If hungster is right, then perhaps it's the video card. In the Win98 pc, I'm running an ATI Vivo 64MB AGP card. At work, I think it's integrated video though I'm not sure.

It doesn't happen very often - maybe once every 7th or 8th page loaded. Just like you said, scrolling makes it disappear and keeping the mouse over it as well. I'll try upgrading the driver when I get a chance. Strange indeed... [ponder]

Do you know what exactly Vivo from ATI ?

the one i had problem with was integrated Rage XL PCI of one of my Dell Server
none of my Nvidia and Matrox have the problem

It's the "Radeon 64MB DDR Vivo", which runs off the Radeon 7200 graphics chipset.

I also just checked my work pc and get this...it's an ATI as well!! This one is a "3D Rage Pro AGP 2x" according to dxdiag. Like I said before, this one has no problems on this website.

It can't be the version of Java VM either because both of my pc's are running 5.00.3802.

you should be able to find the new driver on the ATI website

yes out of my 4 Dell Server, 3 doesn't have this problem even with the same driver, only 1 has
and i installed the newest driver from ATI's website, and it is gone

try that cdogg

Okay, Hungster, here it is. The card does not have much in the way of identifying marks, but it is a Rage Mobility-P
*I have written down all of the #s off the main chip if you want those too.
#s on PCB CR216A Ver 1.0

Incidentally, this is in a desktop. Not integrated.

I am also trying to track down the company/drivers right now, I'll post back if I get it.....

mudskipper,

take the card out of the computer, usually ATI has the thing labelled on their chipset
either integrated or not, still you can find the ATI chipset

Hungster,
I will intall the latest driver tonight. However, the one I currently have installed is only 2 revisions old (4.13.9021) which was released in April '02. Nevertheless, we'll see if the one released in June makes a difference...

Sorry, gonna make it tough on you. No sticker on the back, other than a generic "s/n: 6020700110636" from manufacturer. I have found that the card itself was slapped together by "Power Color". A little no-name company. The Video chip that normally contains all of the info you need on an ATI chip says

ATI RAGE MOBILITY-P
216P0SASA25
D33565
992855

On the card itself, it list's Power Color's ID
CR216A Ver 1.0

Now, the interesting thing is that if you were to go to a search engine and type in some of that info, you would find people listing that card as "XPERT 98". My sad story is that ATI does not list a driver for Mobility or XPERT 98.

Don't you love this?! I usually don't have this much trouble hunting down a driver....but this is what I get for not specifying the video card that I wanted when work ordered it!!!!! LOL ----------------------------------------

Well, that driver required DX 8, so I installed 8.1. Just to double-check, Tek-Tips still has lines.

Installed driver (thanks for link), install says that I have no compatible device in system.

Thank you for all of your help!! Any other ideas before I cry Uncle? ----------------------------------------

BTW, if you have questions, see
At the bottom is CR216m. The driver they list there is the same one that installs off of the disc provided. ----------------------------------------

what i would do is either e-mail them tech support or call them,
the friggin site doens't tell what kind of chipset it is ?
sad sad sad, that's why one reason i stayed out Power Color

now, try another video card, the cards are cheap now, so you can pick one up and try it

I agree, I think that they are crap...time to swap it and get back to work!

Thanks for all of your suggestions, everyone! ----------------------------------------
