We have automatic updates disabled on everyone's computer so that we can filter what gets installed just in case something gets pushed out that isn't something we want installed from Microsoft. Problem being that we don't get the junk filter updates for outlook when they come through.

I was wondering is there any way that anyone knows of where I can push the actual definition file for the junk filter in outlook 2003 to everyone's computer on the network? I found the file that installs the definition updates but I don't want to have to go to everyone's computer and run the executable.

Thanks in advance

You could try using WSUS and only approving the Junk-mail filter updates.

Are you using Exchange? Or POP3 email? If you are using exchange use the built-in spam options such as the IMF, Sender Filtering (filter blank senders, and recipient filtering (filter recipeints not in AD). Also it would be wise to get an AV/Anti-spam solution for your Exchange server. I use Trend Micro and their products work great!

If you are using POP3 and host your mail somewhere, have them provide spam and virus protection for you. Most free email services provide these services so your provider should have no problems doing so.

These are just some thought. Good luck.

How do you do the WSUS and only approve the junk-mail updates? The only thing I knew that I could do was have it do automatic updates and do the custom updates on each computer but then it's always prompting the user to install the updates.

We are using an exchange server and we actually have a SonicWall firewall and e-mail security system that catches about 99% of it but the outlook filter catches the rest of the stuff that is junk so that our users don't have to have any junk at all in the inbox.

Thank you for your thoughts
