Does anyone know where I can find documentation on how to install/setup a Jumpstart Server? I have found plenty on debugging problems while attempting to Jumpstart a server but nothing on how to set one up. Also, it must be for Solaris 9, SUNWjass 4.2.

Thanks,

It's part of the Solaris 9 Documentation. If you have a media kit, its in there.

There is a Sun BluePrints book on Jumpstart for Solaris 8 but there is really not a lot of difference. I have only run into one difference for Solaris 9. The only difference I have found is that for Solaris 9, you must include the default route in the sysidconfig file.

im kind of in the same situation, I am in the process of building one for one of our sites, but like gallows, I can not find squat for quality documentation, even searching Sun, I really did not find a heck of a lot, on how to create a jumpstart server. I found more of just creating begin/finsh & rules...

Maximusgeek mentioned a media kit, how are those aquired?

I would buy the book, but i'm cheap, I do not want to pay $70 dollars for a book.

Thanks Maximusgeek.
I have the Solaris CDs and will look in there. If you are referring to the Admin Guide for Solaris 9, it really doesn't cover the steps directly.

I did follow instructions I found for Solaris 8. What concerns me is that those instructions only had me copy the contents of CD #1 of 2. Everything looks ok except that when I went to test it, I could not find the "check" command to check the Rules File. This makes me think I missed something. I know the "check" command would be part of the Jass installation and not related to CD #2, but if it isn't there, what else could I have missed?

I appreciate your tip on the SysIdconfig file and will keep that in mind if I ever get that far:))

I did google, but never found anything near what that article has in it. You can't ask for anything better than that.

Thanks danda

gallows - The check command is a script that validates your profiles. You can find it in the Solaris 8 Jumpstart BluePrints book I mentioned before. Its free for download now, I would post it here, but its too long.

Thanks maixmusGeek!!
As it turns out the check script is actuall on CD #2. This was mentioned in the above article and is the first time I found it mentioned anywhere. I guess it would be a big deal for Sun to copy it over as part of the jump server installation instead of forcing you to manually copy it:))

There is a later version of Solaris 9 that I downloaded a few weeks ago and burned my 3 cds with that version. I doubt if it would change much, but just in case I copied it from that CD.

Thanks for your posts!!
