Just doing a little research in using jumbo frames and wanted to run an idea by everyone. I was thinking about creating a separate vlan for my backup server so I could do jumbo frames between it and an HP L3 switch(jumbo frames supported). My only thought would be that any benefit I would get from the jumbo frames might be negated due to the L3 penalty involved instead of just running L2.
Opinions?

My understanding is that large sustained data transfer applications like backup are faster using jumbo frames due to the increased frame size.
