Hi,

anyone has an idea why the "Setup Remote IPL" option is missing in SMS on blade JS22? I am in top of the SMS menu.

Code:
 PowerPC Firmware
 Version EA320_040
SMS 1.7 (c) Copyright IBM Corp. 2000,2007 All rights reserved.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 Multiboot
 1. Select Install/Boot Device
 2. Configure Boot Device Order
 3. Multiboot Startup <OFF>

 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 Navigation Keys:

X = eXit System Management Services

Listing all boot devices in SMS shows:

Perhaps the HEA ports are down? Do the bladecenter's network switches have an uplink to your LAN? If I got this right, some bladecenter switches can power down the ports to the server's HEA ports if there's no uplink established.

2. If you are attempting to boot from the network:
a. Make sure that the network cabling to the BladeCenter network switch is
correct.
b. Check with the network administrator to make sure that the network is up.
c. Verify that the blade server for your system is running and configured to
respond to your system.
d. Turn the blade server power off; then, turn it on and retry the boot
operation.
e. If the boot still fails, replace the system-board and chassis assembly.

thx p5wizard but could you please tell me if the single / the only ethernet switch module (2/3 layer 6-port nortel switch) I have installed in the blade chassis can be used for network configuration on two js22 blades I have installed in the chassis? how the switch ports are mapped to the HEA adapters on blades?

at the moment network works fine on lpars built on blade in bay 1.

the network problem I have is with the blade installed in bay 2 in the chassis.

If it works in one JS22, it should work in the other also. Are you at liberty to swap the blades positions?

If you can't get it to boot from network, try and load diagnostics CD/DVD. I'm guessing sth is wrong with the HEA ports on the blade.

What type of bladecenter (out of curiosity)?

HTH,

I have already swapped the blade position.
Originally the two blades were installed in position 1 and 3. I had a problem to open console on the blade in position 3 (hanged) so I moved the blade into position 2. Now I can open the console but I meet next problem with "Setup Remote IPL" missing in SMS.

This is H model of the chassis.

btw. As I wrote, there is 6-port nortel switch module in the chassis. How to get working two ports working in different VLANs and how is it recognizeable on the blades / HEA? (at the moment the switch module is in default configuration, one network cable is attached and network works fine on blade #1. Why it deosn't work then on blade in slot 2?)

You'll need another switch (SW module 2) for the 2nd HEA ports to operate as these ports are routed via different paths through the BC-H midplane to the switch modules.

As for your original problem, it could well be that your nortel switch modules has some INT ports (the ports that connect to the blades' HEA ports) in shutdown state. See this redpaper: . It has a troubleshooting guide in chapter 9.
