*.js files, what are they and how can I disable scanning?

Hello again. I have just read the following:

I need to know what the *.js files are and how can I disable the scanning of them to speed up my browser(?)?

They are talking about some web site pages coming up really slow and others come up "like right now!"

.js is usually associated with java script. Hope this helps.
