Jpgs turning into Bitmaps - what's the real story?

Win98se. Sometimes when saving a .jpg file it will show as an untitled file (instead of file name) with the extension of bitmap (*.bmp).

Doesn't seem to be any particular reason - the previous file from the same set will show as a .jpg as will the following file. Have found sometimes changing the extension to .JPG (caps)will fix the problem and sometimes not.

Aware this can be a problem if the cache file is full but have set my cache file to 500mb and clear it regularly so this is not the cause.

Try (while in IE) going to Tools, Internet Options, Settings, View Objects. ANything here damaged? If so, right click on object(s) and remove/update as needed.
