Hello,

When I preview the swahili.html file in my builder the picture turns out super. Then when I upload it on my server and look at it in the web site: under swahili the picture is still blank? Strange! Can anyone explain by viewing my source coda and see what is wrong. Because I inserted the image using the wizards on the html builder and pulled the picture from that folder and added it with the code you see.

Any help on this little glitch?

Dear Jessica,

Yes, I "insert image" and that opens a browers on the hard drive to search for the 'picture folder' and then you say add and the wizard will show all of the .jpg phots in the pictures folder. When you focus on "kidsafrica" on the left it will show the width, the height, you can add a title, etc etc. It will even show on the lower part the photo and if you like it you click add. That transports the code that is on my Swahili folder on my web site.

It should work! It works and looks fine in the preview. The picture turns out beautifully. But when I up load this "swahili.html" on my server and put it on my web site,
the picture disappears. That leaves me will a big question?
Why?

I forgot to say directly that I do have a directory called pictures and in that directory are many photos, including this one call kidsafrica.jpg.

Are you uploading the image to your webserver as well? Typically when you add it to an html page, it only adds the reference, not the file itself.

Oh! How do I upload the image to my web server? That is something I did not realize. How do I add the file pictures/kidsafrica?

Thank you very much for the tip Jessica. I am quite new at this html stuff. Many thanks and I will give it a go.

Is your site being hosted on a Unix server? Unix is sensitive to upper/lower case letters. If the page is looking for kidsafrica.JPG, but the file is called kidsafrica.jpg, it'll work on your PC (which doesn't care about case) but not on the web server (which does).

Hello ChrisHunt,

I did as you said. I changed the case from .JPG to .jpg and the web server does not receive. I bet there must be some software program to upload the pictures onto my html folder on the site and then it will recognize them. Not? I wonder if there is a freeby or maybe a cheap version of that
software I can download? Any ideas Chris?

Like Jessica says - you must already have some kind of file transfer program that you use to upload the html page. You should be able to use that.

What progams are you using to build/upload your site? Perhaps somebody here is using the same thing and can give you step-by-step instructions.

CHRISHUNT,

I build the html in an html kit builder and I see the pictures just fine in the preview. And I just do a browse on my aplus.net web server and they upload my files fine.

I am sure there must be a software to upload the picture as a .jpg. Now as jwenting just said that the picture is corrupted. Could that have come since there is a bugger of a virus bouncing around the world. I am going to try a picture that did not come from internet and see if I can upload a clean .jpg. Any suggestions?

The image has an absolute file path, i.e. /pictures/...
Try removing the slash at the start of the file path to make it relative and see what happens.

NigeW,

Thanks for the comment. I took the first / forward slash off before the word pictures on my html.builder and did a preview and at that I could not even see the pictures on the html builder's preview screen. Any ideas?

When you refer to your builder - is this on the server where the site is hosted or on your local PC ?

When entering in my browser I get an error message that the file does not exist on the server. So to me that seems to indicate the image has not been uploaded to the site, or the image has been uploaded but not to the pictures directory.

Ciao

Nige

NigeW,

Sorry, I haven't touched the kidsafrica. I am working with the first picture on Russia, called moscowcar.jpg. I just learned how to put it from my html.builder on my PC upload it as an image by clicking the box for images on the aplus.net web site uploader. I open up the html folder and can upload any from my html.builder and all works fine. Now I run into this snag that I can't get the picture to upload as it should. I did up load it as an image by clickiong the box which corresponds. I did that up load with just one foto, moscowcar.jpg and when I go to look at it nothing. What a let down. Any ideas.
