Hi

I converted several digital photos from jpeg to tiff. I then corrected them for colour, exposure, noise etc. All layers were flattened then cropped and saved. The final images were then converted back to jpeg at the minimal compression (12 in PS 6).

When I took them to the lab to get printed the machine through which I select the photos showed the original images plus the manipulated image (which was the image that would be printed). Although these images were manipulated, including cropping therefore deleting some information, before they were saved the original (uncropped) information was still there. How is this so??

Sounds like black magic to me ;)

If you save as a jpeg then no other information should be present than that which is saved. There should certainly be no information about the original pre-manipulated image . Are you sure the original files weren't saved somewhere on the card/disc that you took to the lab?

As for re-saving to jpeg, you will find that most labs will be able to print from uncompressed tifs (the lab I use does). This is better than re-jpeging, especially if you're having large prints.
