My mom is in desperate need of jpeg assistance. She cannot open any of her jpeg files. When you double click on the icon, nothing happens. The icons are not regular jpeg icons that you would usually see with the little red box and what looks like a paint brush. The icons that she has now for her jpeg files are just white boxes with the Windows symbol. She has been experiencing technical difficulties lately with her computer but not sure what. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. [pc]

right click on one of the jpegs, select "open with", and scroll thru the list until you see the program you want. If you don't have a graphics package like photoshop or something, use "iexplore"

there should be a little check box at the bottom that says "always open files of this type with this program" or something similar. Check that, and that should be you.

You have to hold down the shift key and right click to get the open "with" option. "A little knowledge is a dangerous thing....." [morning]

Scotsdude & nobrain -
thank you for your replies - I am hoping this will solve the problem. If not, I will be back. [wiggle]

If none of the above work then what you need is a photo or paint program you know can open Jpegs (it sounds like the program that created or dealt with Jpegs on your system have been lost or no longer works)
The most popular is Adobe Photoshop, Home or Professional.
once installed simply go to open file, find the image and double click. This program will also allow you to manipulate/alter/trim/etc, etc so is well worth having if you are into storing images on your PC.
You can even remove someone you don't like on a picture, so if you had to stand next to your worst aunty at a wedding then you don't have to suffer looking at that picture no more! Martin Vote if you found this post helpful please!!

Paparazi-
Thank you for this information. I forwarded it on along with the others. Hopefully one of these suggestions will solve the problem. [2thumbsup]

you should download lviewpro, that is a very fast, and small program. It is small as in the download file and also the program itself. I think its less than 1 mb to download, and the exe itself is less than 1mb also. loads very fast and opens up pictures really well. you can use it to edit, buh its sorta confusing.
