I am thinking of switching from Linux to FreeBSD. I know that Linux is currently implementing journaling in there latest file systems. Does anyone know if FreeBSD has a journaling file system?

thanks

I have been thinking along similar lines. I don't know of a project at the moment. I wonder if it's possible, using Linux compatibility mode, to mount a ReiserFS partition? That would be kind of fun.

I know it's still not a great solution, because you wouldn't be able to mount /boot (and I'm not sure what else, such as /etc or /usr) on ReiserFS, since you would need to load the kernel before mounting with Linux compatibility. (True? Can any experts correct me on this?)

However, if you set up your system so that you are satisfied with the install and configuration, then you can "freeze" the kernel, binaries, and config directories, by making them read-only, so all you keep "live" is /proc, /var, /home, and whatever other directories you want. Maybe you could mount all of those on a ReiserFS partition.

I'm sure there would be more than a few headaches to figure it out, but it would be an interesting project.

I'm sure somewhere, there has to be a project to port a journaling filesystem to FreeBSD, though. Let me look around.
