Hi,
i was working at a client(i found the client on my own) based in CA through my consulting company(based in california). now my contract is ending at month end. there are open positions at client place and i have applied for it. i told it to my consulting company but they say i cannot join the client as per the clause in my contract with them. i have a Green Card.i wanted to know if there are any legal implications if i go ahead and join the client.

Unfortunately, there are legal ramifications if it was written in the contract you signed. I would suggest reviewing the contract carefully.

You don't mention how long you worked at the client site, but I have heard that consulting companies are hesitant to try anything if you worked at the client site for more than a year. They may also be hesitant to try anything if the client is a larger account of theirs for fear of losing their "in".

You might also want to talk to someone at the client site. I was in the same situation, however, the client and the Consulting company had an agreement they could hire a consultant if they were there for more than a year.

I also worked at consulting companies that had agreements with clients that a finders fee would be paid to the consulting company if the company hires a consultant.

Hope that helps.
