The following error occurred when DNS was queried for the service location (SRV) resource record used to locate a domain controller for domain reskit.com:

The error was: "DNS name does not exist."
(error code 0x0000232B RCODE_NAME_ERROR)
im trying to set up a windows 2000 network. when i type in the name of the domain (reskit.com) it comes back with this stuff.. (from the dcdiag.txt file) should i be doing something on the windows 2000 server. the domain is set up already i just don't know how to join a computer or user to a domain. What am i missing here? also,, i currently have this computer (win xp) connecting to the internet through a different IP. i want to connect to the internet via the server. how would i go about that? this is for testing purposes. thanks everyone.

The query was for the SRV record for _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.reskit.com

Common causes of this error include the following:

- The DNS SRV record is not registered in DNS.

- One or more of the following zones do not include delegation to its child zone:

reskit.com
com
. (the root zone)

You join a XP computer to a domain the same way you do in Win2k. Go to system properties. Click on Computer Name tab then select the Change button.

And for that DNS error. You need to give the XP machine DNS Settings which point to the server
