I have been having problems joining a new computer setup with Windows 2000 pro to our existing NT4 domain. The computer can see all of the computers in the domain and ping the PDC but when I try to join it to the domain it say the domain can’t be contacted or does not exist.

If I use the wizard to try to join it then it seems to find the domain for security validation but not the computer domain and therefore cannot add the computer.

We have two other Windows 200 machines on this domain so I am not sure why I would get this error. There are not errors in the event viewer.

Please help

Try this:

Go to start/configuration/dial-up networks.
then right click on the net icon go to properties
choose the WINS tab and allow NetBIOS over Tcp/IP and reboot.

I had sort of the same problem. And this solve it.

Hope you have luck!
