People,

How is it possible to join paths; & then trim off any overage?

For example, in AutoCAD...I can draw 2 horizontal parallel lines. Then I can draw two vertical lines near the ends. I can join those lines, to form a box; & then trim off all the lines beyond my basic shape, to form the corners.

How is this done in Illustrator?

Thanks,

There are many ways, but the lines have to touch somewhere.

If they are stroked lines:
Place the lines or objects so they meet somewhere and hit the "Outline" command in the Pathfinder tab. You will have to re-color/stroke the art afterwards.

If they are Objects/solids:
Place the objects so they meet somewhere and hit the "Merge" command in the Pathfinder tab.

Select the leftover points and hit Delete.

You can also enable Snap (similar to CAD) and snap points together using the "Join" command crtl-J.

fizzak,

Thanks a million! (will try all this tonight.)

Thanks again,
