I have all the latest and greatest for sql 2005, but I am confused by something today.

I have about 40 scheduled jobs. When I go into jobs that may have come over from 2000 (just a guess) I do not see any history. On the other hand I can see plenty of history for other jobs.

I am not sure I want to script the jobs and redo them, but I am thinking there must be something I am missing as to why some jobs have history and some do not - even though all are running just fine (I even went in and looked at sysjobs in the msdb and these jobs do not look any different than others).

Thanks in advance

You may have to much job history and some of the history has dropped off. SQL Agent only keeps 1000 lines of history across all jobs by default. So if you have a couple of jobs which run every few minutes your nightly jobs won't keep any history. Edit the SQL Agent properties and you can change this setting. I recommend setting the max records per job to 500 or 1000 and the max total records to 10000.

you are SO right --- I re-discovered that setting after I submitted ... dardnest thing the list of those without history is gradually shrinking as the day progresses.

Thanks Denny - have a star on me!
