Jobs hang after writing

Backup jobs write to tape (NB DC 3.4.1), get to the 'end writing' line and seem to hang, until the services are stopped(mix NT and W2K servers).
This prevents the tape drive being used again by another job, so big problem for nightly backups tonight!

Any ideas? Thanks

Please give more information - O/S for master, tape drives, format, how many drives, robot, media server, versions on all.
