I have Arcserve 12.5 running on Windows 2003 Server.

The backup job had been running without issue since it was installed.

The last week or so, the overnight backup job has a status of 'Waiting for target' - when I click on this I get an error message of 'Group Names with wildcard characters are not supported currently'

Under the Backup job properties, Under 'Destination' the option 'Use any Group' is checked.

The 'Group' field is greyed out with a * (Wildcard) symbol in it

The 'Media' field has a * (Wildcard) in it

What values should I put in these two fields?

Thanks..

Select the job from within the Job Status window, then Modify, and then Submit to repackage it back into the queue. If it still fails create a new job or if the original script was saved to disk select that and submit it into the queue.

Thanks for the reply - when I resubmit - I get the same error right away

I don't have the script saved

Any other ideas??

Next step would be to try recreating the queue.

close the manager
run cstop
rename the queue directory 00000001.qsd
run cstart and test it out

Tried that and recreated a new job.

Got exact same error - "Group names with wildcard characters are not supported"

Finally figured it out.

When you are submitting the job, you must select "Run On" and then it will work. The Wild Card thing is only for "Run Now" jobs. The job can be setup to run right aways but must be submitted as a Run On.

Hi - changed that value to 'Run on' and the job had a status of 'Ready'

As soon as it reached the 'Run on' time it immediately changed to a value of 'Waiting for target'

I uninstalled the entire software suite, reinstalled and it's working now.

Thanks for all the assistance David.
