Running XIR2 on 2 dual core servers.

I have 1 of each servers running (Job, Cache..etc) on each box. Someone told me I should add another Job Server to each to increase performance and/or prevent future performance issues. I do not see anything on that in the admin guide.

Is this easy to do and if so does anyone have the steps? Also if I add a Job Server, do I need to add additional other servers too?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Unless you have multiple processors ( dual core is not the same, to most software, as 2 CPUs) and lots of RAM, adding more job ( or any) servers could actually hinder performance since even when inactive they use resources.

If you have clustered the servers the built-in load shifting should be able to handle things.

You could also increase the "Max Concurrent Jobs" on the job server. From the manual I got when I took the SA410 - Design and Deploy a Solution class, each Job service can handle up to 20 concurrent jobs but each CPU can only process 5 concurrent jobs. From working with a consultant whom I trust, I know that BOE "sees" dual-core processors as separate processors, so you should be able to increase the Max Concurrent Jobs on your job servers to 20 without any problems.

Hi,
One note about dual-core processors and BOE licensing:

Trust me, I am well aware of the licensing. 2 Dual Cores costs 3 processor licenses.
